SOUND – Heyday / Brute force
28 JunGreat single by a not so great band…Only try and ask greek new wavers(both musical writers and fans) why U2 get booed and Adrian Borland’s The Sound are faced as the golden boys of 80s post/punk/new wave, pre epic rock whatever!

HIGSONS – Run me down / Put the punk back into funk
28 JunHigsons were a novelty band/act of British post /punk pop sound with a reggae identity trying more to make fun of the whole craze with this musical genre, after Police’s massive success. But also were political and carried the anarchic spirit of Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and Firesigh Theatre, making me considering them a serious group in the same theoritical vein with Crass and John Cooper Clarke. And what an adventourous single!

LOW NUMBERS – Shok treetments / Try it
28 JunI can’t believe that exists this single in your collection…Great proto punk/power pop with heavy outlaw attitude and silliness for all you underground 70s afficionados.Later in the late 70s they had also a whole lp in Rhino label in a more new wave inspired power pop direction with some great songs and hooks…

RITA MITSOUKO – Marcia baila
24 JunThe French intellectual synth pop answer to Sparks?Maybe…But Les Rita Mitsuko had almost written (in the mid 80s) half the story of the new wave, boogie rock n roll and punk rock of Indie France, having Fred Cichin to be the basic member of the first underground band of this country after 1976-the legendary Gazoline. The others were Stinky Toys(with ”carrere” in punk pop England) and Extrabreit playing energetic and chaotic rock n roll and-yes-being punk…Catrin(Ringer) love you… R.I.P Fred.

KORGIS – Everybody’s got to learn sometime / Dirty postcards
24 JunModern/intellectual and romantic new wave pop from a combo that existed long time before England’s charts were attacked by the commercial-but charming- sofisti pop of Visage,ABC, Spandau Ballet, Adam Ant etc.The story of Korgis holds from the folk rock adventures of Stackridge(70s beatles influenced quirky band with bad hairstyle but wonderful songs and lyrics structures) and specifically Andy Davis an ex hippie and connoisseur of the -then strong-ethos of new wave aesthetics. Not for all tastes, and sure not for them who detest”lightweight stuff”…

JONA LEWIE – You’ ll always find me in the kitchen at parties
24 JunAnother one strange artistic individual besides Wreckless Eric,John Cooper Clarke,Patrick Fitzerald and Duffo(Australian Bowie clone).Very strange and eclectic pub rock based new wave,at times annoying but for sure suits for repeated listens.Of course none cares, but in the mid 70s was part of a novelty act/band of British Underappreciated ,with the name of Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs…Jonathan King(Paloma Bianca fame) had something to do with them and signed Dinosaurs to his own UK label, also home of Ricky Wilde(yes Kim’s little talented glam pop brother),Sparky,Bunk Dogger.Dinosaurs sanked without trace and Jona returned back at the new wave explosion, where the post glam acts were so loving and ifluential for all these young punks.Stiff’s best new wave pre/boy,so what are you waiting for?
