RENATO ZERO – Via Tagliamento (1965-1970)

17 Jun

The one and only Glam Rocker(with an arty feel) of Italy.Nowhere near to Bowie theatrics, nor to Ferry luxurious extravaganza,Zero blended the cultural tradition of Italy, the literature of Ancient Romans and Greeks and the optical decadence of European pop/glam 70s.His lyrics and music are full of strange mythical creatures, paganistic chants, illusions of a well maintained Ancient Theater as the one he was dreaming of.Not an easy listen as a whole artist, but the above collection of his early stuff is a good introduction both to his 60s -near hits-songs as well to his later difficult manoeuvres.

KAREL FIALKA – Still life

Unknown quirky synth pop/new wave from the US of A.File under the robotic craziness of Devo with a dash of early clinical Human League and Wall of Voodoo.Love it!

MERIT HAMMINGSON – Swedish Modern

RINGO STARR – Goodnight Vienna

Poor Ringos’ post Beatles adventures were really bad…Nothing saves this confused album in comparison with Lennons’ wonderful pop/rock exercises or Mc Cartney’s clever and catchy art pop of Wings,at the same period. The futuristic pseudo/industrial sleeve simply buries the whole musical work.
